Playing strategy games without murdering your battery
Strategy and tower defence games can quietly eat your battery, because they keep the screen bright and the CPU busy for long stretches. A few tweaks make a real difference, and I test all of them on an old phone precisely because it struggles.
First, cap the frame rate if the game lets you. Many defence games run fine at 30 fps and the visual difference during slow planning phases is tiny. Your battery will thank you on longer sessions.
Second, drop the brightness and turn off unnecessary effects. Particle-heavy explosions look nice but they're the biggest heat source in most of these games. Lowering effect quality often makes touch controls feel snappier too.
Finally, watch for background sync. Some games keep pinging servers even in menus. If a title runs hot while idle, that's usually why. None of this is complicated, but it's the difference between a comfortable commute and a dead phone by lunch.
